I've had two 4.7's (2000 Durango and 2004 WJ) and two 4.0's (Renix 1990 XJ and "HO" 1996 XJ). All four of these vehicles never had any engine problems. I maintained them properly, including oil and trans fluid changes as specified by the manuals, and beat the snot out of the XJ's, as they were primarily hunting vehicles in the sierra's.

Need to change the oil in a 2004 Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 High Output Engine. Found some very interesting information and was wondering why would Chrysler change oil specs after a vehicle has been in service for six years? The factory service manual says 5w-30 is preferred up to 100F and it is even labeled on the oil fill cap.

I would dump the crankcase quick and use a good 10w30 dino oil, like Havoline for example. Great oil analysis results witht the I-6's and this stuff. Run a bigger filter too, like a Donaldson 550299, 6.75-7 quart crankcase capacity. More oil the better. Yes. One wire is the ground/signal and would be analog. Which is weird because 03-04 got two wire digital sensors. And 99-02 were 3 wire analog. So it is weird to have a one-wire sensor since I didn't think our WJs ever had those (usually 2 or 3 wire) AND 03-04 were digital sensors. One wire being analog. My 4.7 wj runs fine, when the engine idles when it's temperature is cold the oil pressure is more or less at 3 but when it reaches operating temperature the gauge shows that when the engine idles the pressure is close to zero, but as soon as i press the pedal and let it idle at 700 rmp instead of 500 the oil pressure goes close to 3.

What PSI am I looking for and what is the standard capacity for a 2002 WJ with a 4.7? I did some searching and couldn't find anything here or on the web. I realize oil may be an issue, but typically when/if coolant leaks over a long time like this, I've been told oil is still in the system.

Just picked up 04 4.7 and went to change oil and found oil pan is rusted pretty well. Looked up labor time and it shows 5.7 hours in labor. anyone done this and did you have to swing and tricks to make it go by easier.
