How to Get from Lauterbrunnen to Mürren. There are two main ways you can get up to Mürren from Lauterbrunnen: hiking or taking the aerial cableway and train. If you’re only doing a day trip, hiking up to the town isn’t the way to go.
Duration: ca. 6-9 hours. Altitude difference: up 720m, down 1120m. Category: difficult, good physical condition required, only for experienced mountain hikers. Note: extra loop Tanzboedeli: +80m altitude difference up and down. From Gimmelwald you hike to Sefinen valley, where you cross the Sefinenlütschine.
Oeschinen Lake is located high on the mountain and is not accessible by car for tourists. You have to leave your car in Kandersteg and take a gondola. From the gondola top station, you can walk to the lake in 20-30 minutes. The cable car to Schilthorn from Murren has a middle station called Birg, and it is a place to be if you want some dizzying adventures in Lauterbrunnen. Parts of it in muerren are even lighted. When you get to Gimmelwald in half an hour if you walk reasonably slowly you can walk back up, or take the cable car gondola down to Stechelberg in the valley or take the gondola back up to Muerren, or stay on it all the way up to the mountain top of Schilthorn at 9,748 feet.
The walk from Stechelberg to Trummelbach falls is 1.8 miles, and adds less than half a mile to the entire walk back to Lauterbrunnen. The walk is flat and should take around 30 minutes. Tickets to Trummelbach Falls costs 14 CHF, and the falls close at 5:00 PM so be sure to leave enough time at the end of the day if you wish to visit. ao04EIU.
