I can second the bluetooth settings in your phone as a cause of this problem. Have a Nexus 6P, and it turns off bluetooth broadcasting to save battery. I was having the issue of the bluetooth disconnecting in my f-pace after 30 seconds - 1 minute, while my wife's S7 was fine.
The Bluetooth I've found ok when ive used it a few times sometimes accidentally. It's loud. Could it be a settings on your phone iTunes. There was a thread about that and output volume I'm sure. Ideally use the cable or a USB stick but Bluetooth music should be fine so worth looking at settings
